WW Prologue and Part 1: Intro, Ch1 (first peoples), Ch 2 (first Civilizations)

As I sit at my desk typing I am reflecting on several different things.  The first is that this is my first time creating a blog and will have several different reflections throughout my first attempts in order to get the hang of this. So far, I like it!

Secondly, I have not had a history class since high school and while I enjoy history, I feel as though I am dusting away cobwebs from my knowledge bank.

Throughout the first couple of chapters I not only was pleased by the format of our book providing a fluidity to the reading but also the information which I gathered.

First thoughts: Paleolithic, Neolithic, Ancient, Classic, Modern.

I also found it interesting that the Paleolithic age accounts for 95 perce.nt or more of the time that humans have occupied the planet and how much agriculture is a part of our society...even that there were several different species of humans, a fact I was unaware of.
Something else I found interesting is the huge role that women played in society providing for the bulk of the family income.
Stepping back for a second it blows my mind that it possible to gather information about our existence and development as far back as we are able to.
Another observation is how even in the earliest of societies there was still a sense of order and balance that was maintained between different classes, the roles of men and women, and the adaptation of art, writing, and number systems for communication.
I am amazed by this simply because it is hard to imagine daily routine without technology, or even how exciting it must have been to discover writing and use it for communication.  It is just amazing to think of the things that we as a modern society have that we take for granted.
I find it refreshing to revisit history in this new perspective and manner, unlike that of middle or high school.

I made my first blog!

Yay! I made my first blog!
